Human overpopulation is a real problem that sadly is ignored all too often. Now thanks to modern medicine and technology we are no longer seeing humans, primarily infants, dying in large enough numbers to keep population at a decent number. When it used to be you had 20 kids and only 3-5 made it to adulthood, that kept things steadier. And of course adults didn’t live to long, from 30-50 at average. But now, almost every child lives long enough to procreate, and human life expectancy is longer.

Human population has more than doubled in the last 40 years alone. This large number of humans, over 7.4 billion, is devastating the planet. Earth can only sustain so much life with its limited space. We only have so much land to live on, grow food, and sustain our way of living. And we need to leave enough land for wildlife to also flourish, for without keeping a balanced ecosystem everything will crash.

We are not ready to move to another planet, and having so many kids is helping to add to climate change, deforestation, and many other issues.

So, what do we do? It’s simple: We stop having so many babies.

Birth control and being responsible about parenthood is the key. Birth control doesn’t “kill” babies, but instead uses hormones to naturally make the female body not ovulate. The exact science is explained very well here<\/a><\/span>.

It doesn’t “kill” anyone. Simply prevents a zygote from ever forming. For Christians who claim it “prevents God’s plan,” it is rather insulting to say that a tiny pill can thwart God. Furthermore, if God absolutely wanted you to procreate, He will make sure it happens. And birth control is NEVER mentioned in the Bible. (See links below.)

It is not expensive to afford birth control, condoms, IUDs, or any other form of birth control. What is<\/em>expensive are unplanned pregnancies and children. And abortion is what actually kills babies. So, don’t want a baby and don’t want to kill anyone? Birth control. Condoms and other forms of safe sex also help with STD prevention. So, bonus there.

Not only is there an overpopulation issue, but many people these days feel pressured into having children. Today’s society presses the ideology that you MUST get married and MUST procreate. This is not true. You are not obligated to marry or have children. Children are NOT <\/strong><\/em>something you have because you simply feel you “must” or that you might get “bored,” or whatever reason someone may tell you. They are a lifetime committeemen. You will ALWAYS be a parent even after they move out. And raising a child is not cheap or easy. You must be mentally, financially, and physically prepared. You must be patient, understand that you should NEVER hit or yell at a child, have the money to support a child, and even be physically well to have a safe pregnancy, not to mention check your genes to ensure you aren’t risking giving your children anything that could harm them.

If you choose to have a child, keeping the number to 1-2 children is essential to help combat human overpopulation. If you must raise more, adopt. Children need homes in foster care and orphanages. They are just as special as any children you could make, and are in need of loving families. It is selfish and unfair to have 9+ children of your own and ignore those who already exist and need someone for them. They come with many backgrounds from being unwanted, removed from abusive parents, dumped because they had a disability, parents unable to support them, and other reasons. Nothing is kinder than opening your home to someone who needs it. Adopting is good, and if abortion is to be stopped we must promote adoption and birth control.

Another thing I will touch on is homebirths: It is very risky to have a homebirth simply for the fact that a doctor is not around to help if something goes wrong, which it can. Thee have been many cases of emergency C-sections or a newborn needing to be rushed into life support in order to live. Women and children die in the hundreds every year because they are unable or unwilling to see a doctor for giving birth. Furthermore, pregnancies do come with risks even in this day and age. Postpartum depression, terrible morning sickness, and even extreme cases can arise from pregnancies. In some cases hormones may be thrown off balance so much so that medicine is required to adjust. If not is taken, it can affect mental stability. More on pregnancy health<\/a><\/span>.

Another issue of pregnancies is older women are more likely to have ill\/deformed babies and harming themselves. 35 years of age is when a woman should err on the side of caution when becoming pregnant, and anything over 40 holds many more risks. And if you do have children, less is better for it also not only makes your life easier financially, but the children’s lives as well. When there are too many children in a house it can make getting illnesses more likely, less attention for each child can cause them to feel distanced, more stressful for everyone, and not to mention having too many children puts the mother at risk of developing serious health issues. Another issue that arises are children’s health. When raising a child often people have said an omnivorous diet is “right,” when actually humans are herbivorous. Feeding children animal products harms their bodies just as it does adults. Sometimes even more so since their bodies are still developing. A plant-based diet is beneficial to them, allows them to grow healthy and strong, and with any diet, as long as all nutritional requirements are met, they thrive and excel.

Humans should also be tested mentally and physically before being allowed to breed. We have sadly many people who have bad genes or are abusive reproducing. They end up making sick children that could have been avoided if they had the proper testing before hand. On top of that, many under qualified individuals who procreate and abuse, neglect, and even kill their own children. People should be checked to ensure they are mentally capable of raising a child and are not going to abuse them. Just as many orphanages do a mental and background check on potential adopters, so should people be checked before breeding. Imagine how much child abuse and infant deaths we could stop just by stopping bad people from breeding? Yes, there will always be cases of people getting around this somehow, but if we can stop even 50% of child abuse that’s better than nothing. And as a victim of abuse myself, I can tell you that this would be the best thing ever for children.

Better Sex Ed in schools will also help combat teen pregnancy. When kids are properly taught the benefits of birth control and not to be ashamed of their bodies, they are better equipped to make proper life choices.

Human overpopulation also has made it harder to find and create jobs. When a person retires from their job, instead of one person there ready to take it there are 10+. This has led to an extreme surplus of people unable to find jobs and stuck working low paying jobs\/work less hours. To ensure jobs stay steady for everyone, population must also stay steady and in lower numbers. And with machines taking over the dangerous and mediocre jobs, this creates even less jobs for humans. With population dropping to a manageable number, the job problem will be significantly reduced and less homeless unable to find work.

The human overpopulation problem is still a major issue and can be resolved in a similar fashion as pet overpopulation. Simply stopping the excessive breeding will lower population numbers. Birth control is good, using it will also help stop the cruelty of abortion, and we can make this world a better, cleaner place by simply not having as many children. It is not “sinful” to see that humans are overpopulated. It is simply science and the facts that we are animals and just like any species, can get too great in number for the ecosystem and planet.
